Ms. Katherine Peterson was elected to an unexpired two year seat on the Plainfield Board of Education on April 21, 2009. Ms. Peterson is beginning the first year of a two year term. She is an alternate on the Curriculum and Instruction committee and a delegate to the Legislative Committee.

Ms. Peterson is a retired elementary principal from the Edison Public Schools, having served in that capacity for eleven years. She has a total of thirty-nine years in education with thirty-four in public schools. Ms. Peterson was a classroom teacher and a learning disability teacher consultant.

Ms. Peterson’s community involvement includes past and present services with the following organization: National Council of Negro Woman, National Association of Elementary Principals, National Council of Exceptional Children, Association of Children with Learning Disabilities, National Education Association, New Jersey Principal and Supervisors Association, New Jersey Education Association, National Parent/Teacher Association, and National Association of Advancement for Colored People.

Ms. Peterson has been a lifelong resident of Plainfield, having been educated in the Plainfield Public Schools. Ms. Peterson loves to travel, read, and tutor needy students. Ms. Peterson is a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
