| PPS to host Eugene Monroe Football Camp |

Consistent with Goal 5: Community & Family Engagement of the 2008-2012 District Strategic Plan, the Plainfield Public Schools will hosts the 1st Annual Eugene Monroe Football Camp at Hubstein Field on July 17-18. 2010. The top offensive and defensive lineman from across the state have been invited to attend. Mr. Monroe, along with several NFL players, will be providing training to the participants. This promises to be a full, engaging day for all involved. Special thanks to Mr. Daniel Cone, Vice Principal of Student Athletics and Support Services, for his leadership in this effort. |

| Family Movie Night |

Consistent with Goal 5: Community and Family Engagement of the 2008-2012 District Strategic Plan, the Plainfield Public Schools opened the 2010 Summer Family Movie Night on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Nearly fifty parents and students were in attendance to view “The Princess and the Frog” at Washington Community School. The district is excited to provide this quality family time to our stakeholders. Ongoing movies have been scheduled throughout the summer. Special thanks to Mrs. Deborah Boyd, Coordinator of Administrative Services, for her leadership in this effort. |

| Magician Ken Northridge visits SPLASH students |

On Thursday, July 15, 2010, Magician Ken Northridge visited the SPLASH/ESY students at Washington Community School. This engaging, interactive assembly was in support of the Character Education component of the summer school curriculum. Students were challenged to reflect on appropriate responses during challenging circumstances, and staff will reinforce these skills throughout the summer. Special thanks to Ms. Donna Mullaney, Special Education Resource Teacher, for her leadership in this effort. |

| SPLASH & Extended School Year Programs Update |

This week 59 students attended the Extended School Year Summer School Program, and 63 students attended the Early Intervening Summer School Program offered by The Office of Special Services at Washington Community School and Plainfield High School. The students range in age from 3 to 19 and are diligently served by 30 teachers and support staff. In addition to development in mathematics and language arts, activities this week included a presentation for the elementary grades on social skill development by a local Mime and further reinforcement of social skills through a performance of a Magician. The secondary students supplemented their course work by traveling to Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium where they saw a show on astronomy. |

| Special Education Department receives 101% of estimated reimbursement from the Special Education Medicaid Initiative SEMI Program |

In accordance with New Jersey Statutes Annotated 18A:55-3 school districts are required to maximize their participation in the Special Education Medicaid Initiative (SEMI).This week, The Office of Special Education was notified by the New Jersey Department of Treasury that for the first time ever, The Plainfield Public Schools has met and exceeded the estimated reimbursement for eligible funds. Plainfield received $206,000 in reimbursement for the 2009-2010 school year and this is $2000 over the projected amount of $204,000. |
