Clinton Elementary School - Principal's Corner

March 2018

Dear Clinton School Family,

As many of us are dealing with the sad report of yet another tragic school shooting it is important as parents and educators to not shy away from the topic of school violence. When your children as questions about it, as Parents/caregivers we should take this opportunity to share that things happen in our world that cannot be explained or controlled, but be advised that we will do all that we can to ensure student safety as a member of the Clinton School community. Remember this quote, “Heroes are not born, they are not made.”

Many times teachers (and principals) are asked, "What can I do at home to help my child be successful at school?"  My answer is quite simple, Read with your child every day!  While you are reading it is important to, praise your child, direct a discussion about the story, ask questions, visualize the story, offer information, share personal reactions, and relate the story to life experiences, and have your child restate in their own words key parts of the was just read.  Most of all enjoy the story together and let your child see that reading is cool.  Appreciate this special time together because children grow up fast!
