Plainfield High School - General Information

Plainfield High School has an enrollment of approximately 1360 students and offers a comprehensive educational program operating under a curriculum that offers a wide range of courses. The student body comes from a feeder school system that consists of two middle schools and ten elementary schools. The school proudly consists of a diverse population that includes students from many cultures.

Currently, the high school consists of two buildings, a grade 10-12 building and a grade 9, Freshman Success Academy building. The Freshman Success Academy is designed as a Small Learning Community. The benefit of the Freshman Success Academy is to increase student achievement by reducing anonymity and enhancing academic rigor. Eventually, the entire school population will be broken into Smaller Learning Communities. The school’s curricula and academic focus are being realigned to facilitate this mission.

Plainfield High School is fully accredited and has a professional staff of 125 members, 40% of whom have advanced degrees. The faculty also includes: Professional School Counselors, a Child Study Team, a Speech Pathologist, and a full time nurse. The school also features an Air Force Junior ROTC Program.

The administrative structure of the high school consists of a Principal, and 4 Vice Principals.

The course of study has a complete range of courses for pupils from grades nine to twelve. The formal program of instruction represents a carefully developed curriculum designed to serve the individual needs of each student. The school’s master schedule is designed to enable students to meet or exceed Core Curricular State Standards.

Plainfield High School is a member of the Union County Athletic Conference. This is one of the most competitive conferences in the state. In 2011, the school’s basketball team won the state championship in their division. The school boasts that it has an Olympic size swimming pool and offers a full array of athletic activities and sports teams. Fall and spring sports programs are conducted at the Hub Stine Sports Complex situated on 22 acres. Hub Stine houses a 400-meter track, football stadium, baseball diamond, training fields, sixteen lighted tennis courts, locker facilities and trainers’ room. A complete equipped weight room is located at the high school. Athletic programs are designed to produce scholar athletes and to build each student’s character, integrity and self-discipline.

The high school library has more than 30,000 volumes that include fiction, non-fiction and reference material. There is also a wide variety of magazine subscriptions. The library is scheduled to undergo a complete renovation during the winter of 2011.

Plainfield High School offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Over 25 clubs and activities are available for student’s active participation to expand their knowledge and further develop their talents. The school’s robotics team and debate are among the state’s best.

Plainfield High School is quickly becoming the flagship of the district and expects to reach Blue Ribbon status in the very near future. We welcome all students!
