All the Colors Paint

Making Shades of Skin

Place a palette of tempera paints at the table. Allow children to practice mixing paints together. Particularly, tell them to experiment with what happens when they combine two colors, or when they add white or black paint to another color. Then, have them paint lines on paper and hold their arms up to the line. Encourage students to notice what parts of their skin match up with various colors. Explain that every person has different shades of color on their bodies, and all of these colors are beautiful. Provide children with a small mirror to view themselves as they mix palettes of the colors they think best reflect their skin color. Paint a self portrait together. 		Haciendo sombras de piel

Coloque una paleta de pinturas en la mesa. Permita que los niños practiquen mezclar pinturas. The Colors of Me
Read the story, The Colors of Us by Karen Katz. Discuss the noticeable differences of the characters in the story. After, allow your child to use a mirror to view themselves. In the mirror they can clearly see their skin color and other features that make them unique. Provide your child with craft materials (paper, crayons, yarn, glue, etc.) to make their own self portrait.

Book Review Activity

After reading a story, parents can ask their children questions to help them comprehend the lessons being discussed in the readings. Children can also draw pictures of what they learned from the story.
