Intervention & Support

The Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT) provide support and strategies to teachers and parents of children who are exhibiting difficulty in the classroom or home. Areas of concern could include: a child’s behavior, speech/language, learning, or health. A request for assistance (RFA) can also be made to PIRT based on the results of the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA information below), the Early Screening Inventory – Revised (Refer to ESI-R information below) or the observation of the classroom teacher, master teacher, PIRT and/or parent.
The parent, preschool teacher, PIRT, master teacher, family worker and other relevant staff will meet to:

  • develop an intervention plan;
  • implement/monitor the intervention plan;
  • follow-up, revise the intervention plan as needed.

The Early Screening Inventory – Revised (ESI-R):
It is required that upon entry to a Plainfield preschool program that children are administered a screening by the classroom teacher, such as the Early Screening Inventory-Revised. The ESI-R is a brief developmental screening instrument. It is designed to give schools and parents important information about a child’s development in motor skills, language, and cognition.
