Parent Involvement

Why is parent involvement so important? The research overwhelmingly demonstrates that parent involvement has a direct positive impact on student achievement. The research also shows that the earlier parent involvement begins, the more powerful the effects will be. There is no better time than now to get involved in your child’s education. Remember, you are your child’s first teacher.

How can you get involved?

  • Read to your child daily.
  • Use the Lending Library in your child’s classroom regularly.
  • Engage your child in enriching activities at home.
  • Communicate with your child’s school/teacher on a regular basis to stay informed of his/her progress and find ways in which you may help your child.
  • Communicate with the Family Worker at least 3 times per year.
  • Attend your child’s parent/teacher conferences.
  • Volunteer in your child’s classroom or go on a field trip with your child’s class.
  • Participate in the Parent Organization at your child’s school.
  • Attend school functions.
  • Attend parent workshops.
