PLAINFIELD, NJ – JANUARY 31, 2024 – The Plainfield Public School District’s Board of Education Commissioners and Executive Leadership Team actively participated in the 2024 National School Board Association (NSBA) Equity Symposium and Advocacy Institute, which took place in Washington D.C. from January 26 to January 30, 2024. The event, hosted by the NSBA, brought together educational leaders from across the nation to engage in workshops and discussions centered around equity and advocacy for education.

Plainfield’s delegation, led by Superintendent of Schools Rashon K. Hasan, Ed. S., demonstrated its commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students. The district’s participation in the workshops allowed them to explore innovative approaches, share best practices, and gain valuable insights into creating an educational system that prioritizes equitable opportunities for every student.

Superintendent Hasan expressed his passion about attending the symposium, stating, "Attending the NSBA Equity Symposium and Advocacy Institute has been an invaluable experience for our team. We are dedicated to ensuring that every student in the Plainfield Public School District has access to a high-quality education that nurtures their individual potential. This event has equipped us with the knowledge and tools to advance our commitment to equity in education."

Commissioner Hanae M. Wyatt, Board President, shared her thoughts on the significance of the symposium, saying, "As a board, we recognize the importance of advocating for equitable education. Our attendance at the NSBA Equity Symposium has deepened our understanding of the challenges and opportunities in promoting fairness in our schools. We are eager to implement the insights gained from this event to better serve the diverse needs of our student body."

In addition to the workshops, the Plainfield Public School District took the opportunity to engage with various New Jersey state officials and their staff during the symposium. Meetings were held with the Office of Senator Corey Booker, the Office of Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, the Office of Congressman Tom Kean, Jr., the Office of Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., and the Office of Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. With a goal of Moving Plainfield Public Schools Forward in mind, these discussions allowed the district representatives to share their perspectives, exchange ideas, and strengthen partnerships for the betterment of education in Plainfield.
