PLAINFIELD, NJ – September 5, 2024 – On Tuesday, September 3, Plainfield Public Schools proudly unveiled its newly renovated fitness center at Plainfield High School. This unveiling marks the continuation of the district’s commitment to enhancing facilities following the recent opening of the renovated auditorium and two field houses at the Hubstine Sports Complex just one year ago.
The newly renovated fitness center features approximately ten weight stations, free weights, plyometric jump boxes, a stair master, other fitness equipment, a sound system, and televisions. It also includes Team Builder tablets that allow athletes to access personalized workout plans. The center is designed to help students with their sports and fitness needs and has been updated with fresh paint and modern amenities to create an inspiring environment for physical development.
Superintendent of Schools Rashon K. Hasan, Ed. S., expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We believe in providing our students with the best resources and opportunities to succeed. This newly renovated fitness center is just one example of our commitment to ensuring students have the tools they need to achieve their full potential. As we cut this ribbon today, let us remember that it is more than just a room filled with equipment. It is a place where dreams are shaped, goals are reached, and champions are made. Here we go, Cardinals!”
Under the direction of the current athletic director, Daniel Cone, the last renovations to the fitness center, formerly known as the Weight Room, were completed in 2008. He thanked the administrators for their vision of expanding and improving the facility to benefit student-athletes. Corey Tucker, the assistant athletic director, also expressed his pride in the project. He described the new fitness center as a space that helps to build character, confidence, and team camaraderie.
Shadin Belal, Principal of Plainfield High School, also reflected on the district’s progress: “Here, at Plainfield High School, we shared and reviewed the District's goals, as well as the Strategic Plan. Additionally, we reviewed the goals to expand facility requests and oversee all aspects related to Buildings and Grounds. I am so proud to say that this is the first school district where I have worked that truly achieves these goals. Both students and staff throughout the campus are enthusiastic about the progress we're making.”
Plainfield Public Schools continues to celebrate its dedication to athletic excellence and school pride. The district will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new track and field at Hubstine Sports Complex on Wednesday, September 11.
