PLAINFIELD, NJ – September 25, 2024 – On Tuesday, September 24, the Plainfield Board of Education convened its first Business Meeting of the 2024-25 school year at the Administration Building, located at 1200 Myrtle Avenue.
The meeting began with a report from Board President Hanae M. Wyatt. Following her opening remarks, Superintendent of Schools Rashon K. Hasan, Ed. S., delivered his report, highlighting significant achievements within the district.
Superintendent Hasan recognized the exemplary actions of the Division of Student Transportation by presenting a Certificate of Commendation to bus drivers Sean Trawick, Victor Jimenez, Harold Vallejo, and Juan Ramirez Mora. These drivers demonstrated exceptional courage and professionalism on June 18, 2024, effectively managing a dangerous highway situation and ensuring the safety of students and staff. Their quick response minimized potential harm, exemplifying the highest standards of service in Plainfield Public Schools.
Additionally, Superintendent Hasan announced the launch of a new AI Task Force, led by Shaniesha Evans, Ed. D., Supervisor of Career and Technical Education (CTE). The task force aims to explore best practices for the adoption of artificial intelligence in education and to develop a comprehensive policy for its integration within the district.
The meeting also featured the Annual Presentation of the Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) Report for the 2023-2024 school year. This presentation was delivered by Denise Shipman, Executive Director of Student Services and the district's anti-bullying coordinator, alongside Patricia King Gibbs, Supervisor of Student Services. They discussed the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Law, outlined the distinctions between normal conflict and mean behavior, and provided a summary of HIB reports from the past year. The presentation concluded with an overview of the school self-assessment process under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, focusing on climate and culture initiatives, as well as bullying prevention strategies.
During the meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Danielle Mastrogiovanni, Ed. D., as Chief of Equity and School Improvement, effective September 25, 2024. All other appointments and agenda items were also approved.
