Reorganization Meeting

PLAINFIELD, NJ – January 8, 2025 – The Plainfield Board of Education held its Annual Reorganization Meeting on Tuesday, December 7, 2025, at Charles and Anna Booker Elementary School. The meeting marked a significant moment in district leadership as Board Commissioner Sarah B. Virgo, in her final meeting, reflected on her tenure and contributions to the board locally and statewide.

Virgo, who has served on the board for three years, shared heartfelt remarks about her time with Plainfield Public Schools, expressing gratitude for the support from Superintendent Rashon K. Hasan, Ed. S., and the Board. She emotionally thanked her family for their unwavering support, attending every meeting since she was sworn in. Virgo also extended her congratulations to Board President Hanae M. Wyatt and Vice President Victor L. Webb, Jr., and welcomed Lamont Harris to the board, expressing her excitement for his leadership and contributions to Plainfield.

“I am deeply honored to have served this community, and I am proud of the work we have done together,” said Virgo. “I look forward to seeing how the district will continue to rise with the leadership, and I have no doubt that the work we’ve done will leave a lasting impact on the students, staff, and community.”

Following Virgo’s remarks, the Board certified the election results. The newly elected board members were then sworn in, starting with Lamont T. Harris, Ed. D., followed by Victor L. Webb, Jr., and Hanae M. Wyatt.

Harris shared his excitement for the opportunity to serve on the board, emphasizing his strong connection to the Plainfield community and his dedication to improving the district. A product of Plainfield Public Schools and a former educator in the district, Harris brings over a decade of experience as a special education teacher. He recently earned his doctoral degree in Educational Technology Leadership from New Jersey City University.

“I am proud to be part of this community, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to continue to bring Plainfield on the rise,” said Harris.

Webb, Jr., starting another term as a board commissioner, expressed his gratitude for the continued support and reiterated his dedication to working collaboratively with the board to achieve great things for the district.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve again, and I look forward to continuing our work to improve Plainfield Public Schools,” Webb said.

Wyatt, also beginning another term, thanked her fellow commissioners and the community for their support, especially her family for holding her accountable throughout her service. Wyatt emphasized that the board’s campaign was focused on “Empowerment through Education,” and pledged to continue advocating for students’ needs and ensuring their voices are heard.

The meeting also included the nomination and election of Wyatt as Board President and Webb, Jr. as Board Vice President for the 2025 calendar year. Wyatt expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her leadership.

“I am honored to continue serving as Board President and working with my fellow commissioners to advance the work we’ve started,” Wyatt said. “Our shared commitment to empowering our students remains our top priority.”

Superintendent Hasan took the podium to reflect on the district’s accomplishments over the past year and to share an optimistic outlook for the future. He highlighted the extraordinary success of the district’s District Survey, which saw over 6,000 students, parents, and employees participate—an incredible increase from last year’s survey. More than 60% of parents reported that they recommend Plainfield Public Schools as a great place for students to learn and thrive.

Superintendent Hasan also shared the district’s significant achievements, including the 1:1 Device Initiative in partnership with Apple, the revitalized STEM program at F.W. Cook Elementary School, the fitness room renovation at Plainfield High School, and the completion of the new turf field at Hub Stine Sports Complex. Other highlights included the new sensory playgrounds and the Plainfield Education Association’s successful Five-Year Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“Looking ahead, I ask you to dream bigger – not just for our district, but for every child who walks through our doors,” said Superintendent Hasan. “This isn’t a call to action, it’s a call to believe. Believe in our shared ability to create a district where barriers are broken, opportunities are endless, and every child knows they are capable of achieving greatness. Let’s hold onto this vision together, fueled by hope, passion, and unwavering belief that what we do today will echo in the lives of our students for years to come.”
