Superintendent Explores Innovation, Cultural Exchange, and Global Partnerships During Education Visit to China
PLAINFIELD, NJ – October 28, 2025 – Superintendent Mr. Rashon K. Hasan recently returned from an education leadership delegation to Wenzhou, China, where he joined fellow superintendents, university partners, and educators to study China’s K–12 education system and explore opportunities for global collaboration. The visit, hosted by Wenzhou Kean University (WKU), provided an in-depth look at how Chinese schools blend tradition, technology, and innovation to prepare students for a rapidly changing world.
During the visit, Mr. Hasan toured Wenzhou Foreign Language School and Wenzhou UCAS No. 1 Primary School, two leading institutions recognized for their curriculum innovation and global vision. Both schools exemplify China’s efforts to integrate science, art, and culture into daily learning while fostering curiosity, creativity, and international understanding among students.
At Wenzhou UCAS No. 1 Primary School, Mr. Hasan observed classrooms where students engaged in scientific exploration, robotics, and art-based inquiry. The school’s “scientific education” model promotes hands-on experimentation, collaboration, and the application of knowledge to real-world problems. Teachers work closely with university researchers, emphasizing a learning culture that balances analytical skill with imagination and ethical reasoning. “Seeing teachers and scientists collaborate in support of children’s curiosity was inspiring,” Mr. Hasan said. “It reminded me how powerful learning becomes when creativity and research intersect.”
At Wenzhou Foreign Language School, Mr. Hasan learned about the school’s strong emphasis on global education and bilingual proficiency. Students participate in English, German, and Japanese language programs while studying advanced science and technology courses. The school’s partnership with WKU supports cultural exchange and shared learning experiences between students in China and abroad. “The students’ ability to move seamlessly between languages and cultures reflects a deep commitment to global citizenship,” Mr. Hasan noted.
Throughout the visit, Mr. Hasan also observed how mindfulness and wellness are built into the school day through structured breaks, eye exercises, and physical activities that promote focus and well-being. Schools are equipped with maker spaces, digital learning environments, and AI-enhanced laboratories that encourage students to think critically and creatively about the world around them.
Mr. Hasan emphasized that these experiences align closely with his vision for Plainfield Public Schools. “China’s education system demonstrates how innovation and cultural pride can coexist,” he said. “Their schools are designed to build confidence, creativity, and global awareness—all qualities we strive to cultivate in our own students.”
He reaffirmed that preparing Plainfield’s students to make meaningful global contributions is central to the district’s mission. “Our students must see themselves as part of a larger world,” Mr. Hasan said. “Whether through science, technology, or the arts, they have the power to lead, to innovate, and to contribute solutions that reach far beyond our local community.”
The visit concluded with a discussion on continued collaboration between educators in New Jersey and Wenzhou, including possible student exchanges and professional development partnerships.
“This experience reaffirmed that education is the bridge that connects us all,” Mr. Hasan reflected. “Our shared goal is to nurture thinkers, innovators, and compassionate citizens who can shape a better future for both nations.”
