Plainfield Board of Education Highlights FY27 Budget Priorities and Welcomes New Student Commissioner at December Business Meeting

PLAINFIELD, NJ – December 18, 2025 – At its December Business Meeting, the Plainfield Board of Education outlined a clear and student-centered framework for Fiscal Year 2027 budget planning, reaffirming the district’s commitment to transparency, academic excellence, and meaningful investment in Plainfield’s future. The Board also proudly welcomed Icess Grover, a senior at Pinnacle Academy High School, as its newest Student Board Commissioner, representing student voice at the governance level, and the approval of a new principal for Maxson Middle School.

A second student representative, Heaven Frazier, senior at Plainfield High School, will take the oath of office at the January 2026 Business Meeting.

Superintendent Rashon K. Hasan, Ed. S., presented the district’s Board Budget Priorities, emphasizing a balanced and fiscally responsible strategy intended to strengthen instructional quality and maintain community trust. As detailed in the FY27 budget framework, the district outlined three core priority areas:

1. Student-Centered, Data-Driven Investment
The FY27 budget will prioritize:

·         High-quality instruction in every classroom

·         Student wellness, social-emotional supports, and post-secondary readiness pathways

·         Expansion of authentic learning opportunities, including standards-based grading and experiential programs

·         Continued focus on balancing instructional practices across schools to promote equity

2. Transparency and Community-Facing Accountability
The Board committed to:

·         Clear, verified financial reporting

·         User-friendly charts and public-facing budget tools

·         Participatory budgeting practices that give the community insight into how resources are allocated

3. Educator Workforce Investment
Plainfield will:

·       Strategically recruit and retain educators—especially in hard-to-staff certification areas

·       Strengthen staff development to ensure instructional consistency and excellence

·       Superintendent Hasan emphasized that tax increases will only be considered when fully transparent and directly tied to measurable student outcomes—an expectation mirrored in the district’s culture shift toward data-driven improvement.

“Everything we invest must begin and end with our students,” said Superintendent Hasan. “Our budget priorities reflect a promise to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars while ensuring that every classroom, every educator, and every student receives what they need to thrive. Plainfield’s progress depends on disciplined planning, transparent communication, and a relentless focus on student outcomes.”

The Plainfield Board of Education approved the appointment of Joseph Day as Principal of Maxson Middle School, effective December 17, 2025. Mr. Day brings experience, instructional leadership, and a strong commitment to middle school success. His appointment supports the district’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership continuity and elevate teaching and learning during a critical developmental stage for students.
